This week the U.S. House of Representatives charged President Trump with “incitement of insurrection.” All 222 House Democrats voted in favor of impeaching the president and ten Republications broke ranks from the GOP to join the effort. Liz Cheney was one of these switchover votes. If her name strikes a familiar ring, that is because she is the eldest daughter of Dick Cheney who served as the Vice President to the Republican President George W. Bush.

In 2013, conservative Newsmax magazine named Liz Cheney one of the “25 most influential women in the GOP.” In 2016 she ran for U.S. representative as an obstructionist to President Obama’s policies and was elected with over 60% of Wyoming’s vote. Now Cheney holds the House Republican Conference Chair, the third-highest position in the House Republican leadership. She couldn’t be doing better and she clearly wants to stay on top. This strategic move shows that she is looking to a time when Trump no longer has any political power.

It could be asked that if Liz Cheney were not a member of a well-known political family would she be taking such bold stands. No doubt her family name has opened many doors that are commonly slammed shut in the faces of newbies.
