Two weeks ago Igor Lanis was killed on his front steps. It was caused by a predictable series of events that could happen to anyone subscribing to the QAnon agenda. In the same way that water runs down hill, destruction follows those who follow this growing radical cult.
Members of local police force responded at 4:11 a.m. on a Sunday morning after receiving reports of gun shots. Lanis came out shooting as those who have just murdered family members often do. The behavior is called “suicide by police.” Their actions cannot be faced so they provoke the police into killing them. Lanis had just murdered his wife, Tina, and their dog. His oldest daughter, Rachel, was shot but still alive in the house. And the younger daughter, Rebecca, was spared because she was on a sleepover that weekend.
Of course Rebecca’s life was turned upside down, but even as she recovers, she finds the situation difficult to understand. Hours after the fatal shooting, Rebecca Lanis posted an important message about the “QAnon casualities Reddit forum.
“My dad snapped and killed my family this morning.,” she recalled “Growing up, my parents were extremely loving and happy people. …In 2020 after Trump lost, my dad started going down the Q rabbit hole.” ,,,“He started reading about the stolen election and Trump. Then, in 2022, he was completely off the deep end. Every conversation we had he had to bring up vaccines or COVID or 5G or EMFs or something,” She continues “He would spend all day and night reading stuff on his phone and laptop and would get really pissy over the smallest things. His carefree and fun persona was gone.”
Rebecca Lanis lost her mother and father. This young woman discloses that she’s been grieving for her dad for some time because he was no longer his normal self. She blames the deterioration of her father’s life and his violent actions on QAnon. She wants it known that her family was completely torn apart by the dire effects of the Q conspiracies.
“Down the Rabbit Hole” is an expression describing the downward slide of those who are radicalised by the QAon cult. It was first used in the children’s book Alice in Wonderland as the entry to a purely illogical world. QAnon attracts people who feel overwhelmed by their fears and anxieties. It offers bizare answers to their personal suspicions. This dangerous agenda of lies and deceit affects not only the (hopefully temporarily deranged) but the physical welfare of their entire families. Rebecca is right that this aspect of the MAGA political scene is not given much consideration.
QAnon (/ˈkjuː.əˌnɒn/) is a political conspiracy theory as well as a social movement. Axios reports that not only has QAnon become an out-in-the-open cult supporting violent revolution, it is also “infecting” some American churches.
