Respect for Marriage

This week the Respect for Marriage Act was signed and has become the law of the land. The new piece of U.S. legislation protects the rights of same sex and interracial marriages.

This new law came about due to the high concern that the conservative majority on the Supreme Court will target same-sex and interracial marriage in the future in the same manner that they recently took away rights to abortion. So now interacial and same sex families will have exactly the same legal rights as any other family in America. The final success is due to the efforts made by all of the Democratic Senators and ten Republicans who crossed over.

The Respect for Marriage Act

Currently there are 61.4 million married opposite-sex partners in America. Back in 2019 the US Census Bureau estimated that there were 543,000 same-sex married couple households in the USA (and more now). These pairs were granted the constitutional right to marry in 2015. The number of interracial marriages in new marriages has been increasing from 3% in 1967 to 19% in 2019. Pew Research Center tells us that nearly one-in-five newlyweds in their 30s (18%) are marrying a person of a different race or ethnicity. So this new legislation will benefit those affected but it does not change the ways that marriage works in America.

Our biggest problems about marriage is we don’t realize that it is a fluid institution. It changes to suit human situations. Way back marriages were largely arranged alliances between families. They operated as socially strategic matches between older powerful men and fertile young women. In some cultures a marriage could be dissolved if a man could not procreate or if a woman could not conceive. Also mutual fidelity has not always been demanded in marriage. Males have commonly engaged in extramarital affairs and the unfortunate children of these unions were seen as illegitimate. Women caught “stepping out” as it is expressed, faced consequences.

And marriage has not always been between just one man and one women. Polygamy or marriage between three or more people has been around for a long time.  A Polygamist is the specific term for a man with several wives and usually occurs by the direction of a religion. See Countries Where Polygamy Is Legal 2022. It should be noted that Polyandry, where a woman takes multiple spouses, is rare but still practiced today. Polyamory or Polyfidelidy (group marriage) is generally not legally protected, but is more popular than most people might think. So it would benefit us all to take a step back and reconsider the many opportunities of marriage.

Chuck Schumer was born on a Thursday in the zodiac sign of Saagittarius. The planet Jupiter rules both his INNER and OUTER Selves. Those born with the #57 Dayology Signature are widely philosophical regardless of their particular stations in life. They are always receptive to new ideas but must make an effort not to boast or promise more than they can actually deliver.

Nancy Pelosi was born on a Tuesday in the zodiac sign of Aries. The planet Mars rules both her INNER and OUTER Selves. Those born with the #25 TUE ARI possess an almost uncontainable energry that they use to get their favorite tasks done. It’s no secret that these folks can be headstrong regarding their plans, but everyone gains from their personal initiative.

Actually millions of individuals were involved in creating the Respect for Marriage Act. If nearly 75% of Americans did not support same-sex marriage this particular bill could never have gained any traction in the U.S. Congress. Still this legislation is a only a reality because the dedicated efforts of Senator Majority Leader, Chuck Schumer and  Speaker of the House, Nancy Pelosi. They are coming to the ends of their terms this January, and it is very likely that we will never again experience the motivated and coordinated legislative work we have just witnessed.

Unless we are familiar with Dayology Signatures Rulerships it would be very easy to overlook the similarities of these two powerful individuals. Both have one planet ruling their INNER and OUTER SELVES. Mars is that planet in Pelosi’s case and Jupiter in Schumer’s situation. The emphasis of one energy creates a self-concept of “being on the right track” has worked successfully for these two public servants. The “backside” of this type of Signature rulership is that personally these folks tend to be either loved or hated, which actually seems to be the case here.
