UPDATE – This feature was written before Britney Spears and Sam Asghari exchanged their vows in a private ceremony. Their marriage was his first and her third. It only lasted 14 months. The reasons for their separation were never disclosed. Both had previously suffered some manner of emotional stability, but it was Asghari who filed for divorce.

Sam Asghari was born in Tehran, Iran and moved to Los Angeles at the age of 12. He told Men’s Health “I had to leave my friends and family who I was very close with, and I knew I was moving away and never coming back.” During high school Asghari threw himself into sports and then participated on for a short time with the University of Nebraska-Lincoln team. When that game plan didn’t work out, he enrolled in a criminal justice program.

After that Asghari passed through a very dark and despondent period. He shared an apartment with two other roommates. He was going to school and worked three jobs: a Best Buy clerk, a Gold’s Gym sales rep, and a nightclub bouncer. He was only getting four to five hours a sleep and eating a diet of junk food. But as he puts it, the most disparaging thing was the fear of not going anywhere in life. Fortunately he was able to switch things around.

“I didn’t want to have to deal with that depression and disappointment anymore. I had to restart.” He enrolled in Gold’s Smart Nutrition course, which taught him about nutrition, anatomy, and personal training.  In the following six months Asghari dropped nearly 100 pounds and he was offered opportunities to model and act in the LA scene. And it was through being cast in Britney Spears’ 2016 “Slumber Party” music video, that he met the love of his life.

Asghari has an ease in expressing his feelings “When great things happen to me, it only motivates me and puts me in a position where I have to work even harder. I think about how far my family came, and everything they sacrificed for me to be here, so I never take anything for granted.” Britney wrote on Instagram “I’ve been with this man for over a year… everyday he inspires me to be a better person and that makes me feel like the luckiest girl in the world.”
