John Lennon’s natal chart takes the form of a Basket, which is defined as a half circle of planets opposed by a singleton which in this case is The Moon placed in Aquarius and the Eleventh House. John’s Moon functions in a highly focused manner and is linked to every celestial body except the Sun. The moon represents the feelings commonly experienced by everyone. John claimed the attention of the whole world due his caring and liberated personal outlooks.
The first house of any natal chart designates the personal identity. John Lennon’s first house contains three planets, Saturn, Jupiter and Uranus, all designated heavy hitters, all in firm but loyal Taurus. From his first breath he felt life to be incredibly serious. He was a substantial being, although a bit unruly at accepting what was going on around him. His Libra Sun widely conjunct the Descendant tried to make things easier by appearing pleasant and easy to please.
With the Moon’s Aquarian coloring childhood was anything but normal. He didn’t know his father. After complaints to Liverpool’s Social Services about his mother’s careless attitudes, John was was raised by his down to earth aunt, Mimi Smith. He blamed himself, saying later, “My mother … couldn’t cope with me.” Still they visited often and she provided him with many valuable experiences particularly those regarding music. John was only 18 when his mother died.
History repeated itself when John divorced his first wife and ignored his first son, Julian, due to his involvement with the band and his relationship with Yoko Ono. The Moon was also prominent in John’s last years with the birth of his second son, Sean. John was so struck with having a child that he put his musical career “on ice” for five years to become a house-husband.
John’s whole life was active and eventful due to the fact that his Four Angles are cardinal. His horizontal axis (black line) consisting of an Aries Ascendant and Libra Descendant yearned for exploration but always valued cooperative efforts. His angular Libra Sun and North Node brought him attention for his intent to be of service to others. With his vertical axis (black line) culminates with Capricorn and is rests in Cancer he actually desired rather conventional situations.
A Grand Fixed Square, the red crossed lines, is the configuration that truly complicated John’s life. And it is the opposition between the Moon and Pluto which gifted him with an element of personal roughness. His insistent social message pushed everyone to look at our mean and discordant world, an action which pleased some and annoyed others. And this influence it may have attracted a disturbed young man to shot John Lennon dead at the age of 40.
