Last week, Blue Origin launched a historic all-female crew 62 miles above Earth’s surface. The eleven-minute journey to what is known as ‘The Edge of Space’ has sparked reflection, not just on the marvels of space exploration, but also on the pressing realities of our planet.
For some time now it has become a regular occurrence for Blue Origin to “lift” small groups of passengers up into the upper levels of Earth’s atmosphere where they can experience several minutes of weightlessness for enormous amounts of money. This most current jaunt in space tourism was organized by Lauren Sánchez, who happens to be engaged to Jeff Bezos, the founder of Amazon and Blue Origin. She framed the mission as an effort to “encourage more women to engage with space exploration” but it is also being viewed as a publicity stunt.
The Business Times just published a feature entitled Women Went To Space, But Men Still Want To Own It. It points out that the Blue Origin rocket company sent “the chicks” on this junket as a distraction to obscure the fact that a number of male billionaires, specifically Elon Musk, Jeff Bezos and Richard Branson, plus newcomers Eric Schmidt and Jed McCaleb, view space as a high-stakes frontier with tremendous technological and financial rewards. The space industry is projected to reach trillions of dollars in the coming years, developing satellite communication and commercial space travel, along with space-based manufacturing and resource extraction.
So just as planned Blue Origin received attention for the design of the bright blue flight suits for its curvy all-female line-up, and covering up the overly masculine pursuit of space domination continues with little regard to the condition of Earth and all its natural inhabitants. It’s no secret that Elon Musk wants to “colonize Mars and turn humans into a multi-planetary species through his company Space X” and Jeff Bezos sees “humanity’s expansion beyond Earth as a way to escape a civilization of stasis and the confines of Earth’s limited resources.” Yes, space missions are portrayed as new and exciting, while addressing climate change is difficult and slow.
Nicole Karlis of Salon.com offers the explanation given to her by an unnamed psychologist. She was told that wealth and power can make a people relate to the world in a more self-centered way and that living in a cocoon of privilege makes it hard to see what’s happening around them. Maybe so, but it is also the opinion of Karlis that “some of the extremely rich do seem aware of the smoldering happening here on this planet: the growing social and political unrest, rising income inequality, climate change and extreme weather events, geopolitical uncertainty and the ever-present possibility of another pandemic.” And they’d rather live and work off-planet.

This Blue Origin event is another opportunity to examine the Dayology Signatures of a group. While the women of the April 14, 2025 flight were referred to as a crew, technically they were space tourists because none of them performed duties during the flight. They included:
Katy Perry – Pop star and philanthropist
Gayle King – CBS journalist and television personality
Lauren Sánchez – Journalist, philanthropist, and fiancée of Jeff Bezos
Kerianne Flynn – Film producer and community builder
Aisha Bowe – Former NASA rocket scientist and STEM advocate
Amanda Nguyen – Bioastronautics research scientist and civil rights activist
The courage of these six individuals cannot be undestated. Regardless of whatever they may have heard about space, everyone experiences it for themself. Overall Jupiter is very strong in this group. Three women have a Thursday Day Ray (ruled by Jupiter) and two are Sagittarians (also ruled by Jupiter). Jupiter is the planet of expansion, enthusiasm and promotion.
Mars is the second strongest energy which shows up in three of the signatures. Two of the women were born on Tuesday (which is ruled by Mars) and within the Scorpio sun sign (also ruled by Mars). Individuals (male and female) with intense Mars energy are active and on the go. Together these two planetary energies (Jupiter and Mars) make a very dynamic duo.
As of this moment Blue Origin has launched 52 civilians into space through its space tourism program. This mix of celebrities, business figures, and other notable individuals have experienced suborbital spaceflight aboard the New Shepard rocket. Our next Dayology feature analyzes the Dayology signatures of the females making even greater contribution to space exploration.
