Today President Elect Donald Trump met with the President Barack Obama to initiate the peaceful transition of power that is traditionally expected of them. How did this event proceed considering the ill-will that has transpired between these two politicians just weeks ago?
On this day the very first step toward Trump’s inauguration was taken in the nation’s capital. The president elect and the future first lady arrived at the White House to be introduced to the new life that will soon be theirs. They found themselves greeted by the current presidential couple who were determined to rise above the antagonisms created by politics.
How did the meeting go? Actually it turned out better than anyone could have ever anticipated. Obama’s dedicated efforts to steady the course for the sake of peace paid off. Trump’s surprisingly respectful attitude toward the office of the presidency added cordiality. It is not known what was discussed during these 90 minutes, but both men said they were willing to talk together again.

Upstairs the current First Lady, Michele Obama, opened the gracious living quarters of the White House to Melania Trump, the First Lady in waiting. We are told they were given a special guided tour of the building with White House curator, William Allman. We were provided with publicity shots of the two women having tea and being politely engaged.

UPDATE – Despite the fact that Barack and Michelle Obama welcomed Melania and Donald Trump to the White House after the 2016 election, the new president refuses to commit to a peaceful transition of power now that Joe Biden won the 2020 Presidential Election. It is thought that Trump will pull every trick to stay in office. In Newsday it was reported that the Republicans on the Hill are offering reassurances that the official process outlined in the Constitution will be orderly and legitimate.
