Last week while Americans were anticipating the outcomes of our upcoming national election, President Joe Biden addressed one of America’s deepest past injustices. Every so often this matter is brought up and then forgotten by everyone except our indigenous peoples.
From 1819 to 1970 it was a US governmental policy to place native Native American, Alaska Native and Native Hawaiian children in federal boarding schools. These students were “culturally assimilated” by removing them from their families, communities, languages and religions, while forcing them to only speak English and behave as “the whites.” Most endured a certain measure of physical and emotional abuse. Some died, a fact only noticed by their families.
It was not until Joe Biden was elected president and appointed Deb Haaland as America’s first Native American cabinet secretary that any substantial action was taken to deal with this horrible piece of history. It began in 2021 with Federal Indian Boarding School Initiative, a review of the troubled legacy of federal boarding school policies. Haaland issued the following statement “I know that this process will be long and difficult. I know that this process will be painful. It won’t undo the heartbreak and loss we feel. But only by acknowledging the past can we work toward a future that we’re all proud to embrace.”

The initial report of the initiative was released May 11, 2022. It began “The National Congress of American Indians commends the Department of Interior for taking the essential first step of providing an official account of the atrocities that Native children experienced during the boarding school era. By documenting who, what, when and where these egregious abuses occurred, Native families may not be able to fully heal, but they may be able to begin to reconcile with the past. ” Volume 1 of the report identified 408 boarding schools and at least 53 burial sites that operated across the mainland United States, Alaska, and Hawaii over a 150-year period. Volume 2 discovered that sixty-five federal boarding schools contained gravesites for Native American children, and found that “at least” 973 children died in the federal school system.
Naturally reparations must be made for these “atrocious crimes.” President Biden has begun by signing a new executive order underscoring respect for tribal nation’s sovereignty and autonomy. At a recent address to the Gila River Indian Community he spoke for the entire nation “I formally apologize as president of United States of America for what we did.” He continued “The Federal Indian boarding school policy — the pain it has caused will only be a significant mark of shame, a blot on our record history. For too long, this all happened with virtually no public attention, not written about in our history books, not taught in our schools.” Yes, it’s a good start.

Deb Haaland was born on a Friday in the zodiac sign of Sagittarius. Venus is the ruler of her INNER SELF and Jupiter governs her OUTER SELF. This combination of planetary rulers is very fortunate. The #69 FRi SAG Dayology Signature at its highest levels combines the goodness of Venus and the benevolence of Jupiter. This woman exemplifies these pure energies.
Joe Biden was born on a Friday in the zodiacal sign of Scorpio. Venus is the ruler of his INNER SELF and Mars governs his OUTER SELF. His Venus causes him to attempt to be good in whatever situation he finds himself. His Mars ruled Sun SIGN makes him a fighter. While Biden may initially takes sides but he does come clean about the mistakes that he has made.
Haaland and Biden come from different backgrounds, but both have Venus as their Day Ray. They discovered that they shared similar INNER values and decided to work together on this highly distressing issue. The OUTER lives of these two individuals, as a Scorpio and a Sagittarius, have different purposes and go about them in divergent ways. Scorpio possess more intensity than Sagittarius, but Sagittarius is more philosophical than Scorpio. In this particular situation Haaland’s cultural insights and Biden’s political expertise came together advantageously.
By now we all some idea of who the 46th US President is and how faithfully he has attempted to fulfill his position, but he could not solve all our problems alone. Biden and the Democratic party find themselves finds themselves fighting against the MAGA movement which is proceeding in an entirely different direction and without an ounce of integrity. Biden, who came from humble beginnings and chose a life of governmental service, is now reaching the end of his term. One of his most significant actions was the endorsement of his female vice president, Kamala Harris, to run for the office of US president, but unfortunately she was defeated .
Haaland is barely known by anyone. She is thirty-fifth generation New Mexican. Her ancestors came south into the Rio Grande Valley in the late thirteenth century. “You know, when I think about why I am really here,” she relates. “it’s like I’m here because the ancestors felt it was necessary. I can’t explain it any other way.” She grew up on the Pueblo of Laguna where both Haaland’s grandmother and mother were sent to a Catholic boarding school as children. She states “I think of that every single day, those voices resonate with me every single day.”
