Joe Biden assures us that he “gets it” but maybe not. In a newly released video Senator Joseph Biden asserted “Social norms are changing. I understand that, and I’ve heard what these women are saying. Politics to me has always been about making connections, but I will be more mindful about respecting personal space in the future. That’s my responsibility and I will meet it.”
The occasion for this piece of advice came about after his long time friend and political associate, Nancy Pelosi, explained to him, “people’s space is important to them, and what’s important is how they receive it and not necessarily how you intended it.” The issue of “inappropriate touching” has been brought up by four women who claim to have received unwanted embraces.
Is this presidential behavior?
These photographs record some of Biden’s public encounters with the ladies of Washington DC. The gals may be smiling but each is caught in an unexpected or undesired situation. Take second look at the position from which Bidden makes his moves. He stands behind them and much too closely for comfort. There is definitely something wrong every one of these photos.
“I may be sorry that I made people uncomfortable, but I’m not sorry for any of my intentions.” Yes, his motivations for closely interacting with people seem INHERENTLY honorable and humane. He welcomes people, gives them solace, celebrates their success and encourages them to keep pushing on. And none of the women involved are saying that his behaviors even approached that of sexual misconduct, despite the appearances of these situations.

UPDATE – The Guardian has just published an article entitled Biden vows to respect women’s personal space amid new allegations. Instead of defending his “tactile nature” toward “everyone,” Biden listened to taped remarks made by several women who claim to have felt uncomfortable by his actions. Actually these complaints appear more as unexpected than erotic, but even so they don’t work for a possible presidential candidate.
