All The Ways

Last week the USA TODAY website published 100 Ways You Can Take Action Against Racism Right Now. The list was created specifically in response to the public death of George Floyd at the hands of police officers, but it a mountain of advice and information that could prove useful in future protests.

Compiled by Sara M. Moniuszko and Anika Reed, this list suggests activities that could help people get involved in today’s social movements, without creating any danger to themselves physically. The actual list is too long to replicate, but it is easy to browse. Possibly the most valuable information seems to be ways to actively promote anti-racist behavior since we live in cultures which are inherently or systematically discriminatory. Here are the categories:

Personally Take Action

Contact state and local leaders
Sign a Petition or Donate to a cause
Provide Resources for Protesters
Volunteer to Promote Issues
Amplify Voices on Social Media

From a Dayology perspective the two most important things are: (1) Recognize that that institutional race, gender and other forms of discrimination exists all around the world. Without realizing it we may be participating in activities that perpetuate these insidious ideas, policies and practices. (2.) Understand that it is up to each of us to actively become more accepting of the differences that exist between us all. It is through our thoughts, speech and actions that social justice is made real on earth.

What exactly does social justice and personal activism have to do with Dayology? First of we are here on this planet for the evolvement of the human race among other things. Personal growth involves physical, emotional or mental changes. Secondly each of us is here in a particular type of physical body for a reason. There are things that we can learn from one another.

Those of us who understand the practice of Dayology see that it provides constructive avenues to understand ourselves and others. These insights are not new but they are being restated for our times.
