The USA Astrology Chart

This particular chart of the United States of America is called The Sagittarius Rising Chart and is calculated for Thursday, July 4, 1776 in Philadelphia, Pa. It was originated by Ebenezer Sibly, an 18th century physician and astrologer. Supposedly it is the time and place of the ratification of Declaration of Independence by the 2nd Continental Congress.

According to the Astrology News Service two of the founding fathers, Benjamin Franklin and Thomas Jefferson, were sufficiently acquainted with astrology to insist upon finishing things up by July 4th. They understood that every year on July 4th our Sun conjuncts the star Sirius. This fiery body is 24 times brighter than our sun and is said by esotericists to be the true home of the Great White Brotherhood which functions as “the oversoul‘ to humanity.

In 1776 July 4th occurred on a Thursday and in the zodiac sign of Cancer. The #52 THU CAN Dayology Signature is ruled by Jupiter and the Moon. Jupiter is the ruler of the INNER SELF or spiritual concerns of the nation and the Moon governs the OUTER SELF of physical activities. This signature allows for the positive power of Jupiter to be used for Lunar purposes. Generally this influence means contributing to the benefit of the welfare of humanity.

Now for the astrology chart of July 4, 1776 which is viewed as the birth of the nation. The four angles are created by the two black lines which each bisect the circle. They divide the chart from top to bottom and right to left. The ascendant (ASC) is Sagittarius, indicating that the identity of this country is colored by Jupiter, who mythological nature means well but can be irresponsible. The descendant (DES) is Gemini and represents this nation’s position in the world. Gemini is represented by the Twins who are both alike and unalike. The governing of the United States depends greatly upon its Congress which has two houses, and a two party system in which all or nearly all elected officials belong to either of the two major political parties.

More than half of the contents of this chart are located in this quadrant indicating all manner of social interactions. This angle is also widely conjunct Uranus indicating that the nation came about through a revolution and that from time to time internal tensions will arise that must be addressed appropriately. Mars in Gemini can be depended upon to add fuel to the fire but it also can find creative solutions. Libra located upon the Midheaven (MC) means that the USA gains by maintaining legal and social justice. The most elevated planet Saturn in Libra shows that fairness cannot be underestimated in making democracy work. Finally Aries on the Descendant (IC) reveals that at it’s roots this country is very restless and always ready to try something new.

As a whole the the U.S. Chart forms the geometric pattern of a See-Saw. Two planets, Pluto and the Moon, are balanced against the other eight. Pluto in Capricorn and Moon in Aquarius work with the purpose of Sagittarius Ascendant which is the setting of high aims and attempting to accomplish as many as possible. The trines (thin blue lines) between these two planets shows that these goals functions are easily imagined. The opposition (red line) between Pluto and Mercury shows that deep concerns and heated arguments are to be expected. Allowances must be made for the important differences between individuals of this country and the world.

On the other side of the chart the stellium of Venus, Sun, Jupiter and Jupiter in Cancer in the 7th House act as the weight or ballast. Whatever roles the USA takes in the world, its most important responsibility is to look after the tortured and deprived. The thicker red lines across the top of the charts are areas of challenge and struggle. Simply put they indicate that falling short of goals is due to a belief that there are not resources to go around and the thoughts that that the worldly laws do not apply to everyone and short-cuts have no consequences.

Finally we look to most important factor of this chart, which is the placement of the Sun in Cancer and the Seventh House. This placement takes some effect from the Solar nature of the nation (POWER) and pushes toward the Lunar function (NURTURANCE) of within relationships. It shows that while America was “born” to be truly great, the feelings and needs of all humans cannot be overlooked. It is “WE THE PEOPLE” who make up the USA, and all the nations of the world. It the individual, given care, education and opportunity who contributes the most.

“Give me your tired, your poor, Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free, The wretched refuse of your teeming shore. Send these, the homeless, tempest-tossed to me, I lift my lamp beside the golden door!” ~ Emma Lazarus from the plaque
mounted on the base of the Statue of Liberty.
