On Monday, July 1, 2024 Steve Bannon reported to a federal prison in Danbury, Connecticut. A three-judge panel of the U.S. Court of Appeals declined his request on June 20th to delay the start of his four-month prison sentence while he asked the Supreme Court to review his case.

In 2022 Steve Bannon was convicted of two misdemeanor counts of contempt of Congress stemming from his failure to comply with a subpoena issued by the United States House Select Committee to Investigate the January 6th Attack on the United States Capitol. “I’m proud of going to prison today,” Bannon stated. “I have not only no regrets, I’m proud of what I did.”

“Mr. Bannon had an obligation to appear before the House Select Committee to give testimony and provide documents. His refusal to do so was deliberate and now a jury has found that he must pay the consequences.” explained U.S. Attorney, Matthew M. Graves. “The subpoena to Stephen Bannon was not an invitation that could be rejected or ignored,”

This relatively minor news event was overshadowed by today’s U.S. Supreme Court’s startling decision regarding presidential immunity. Bannon claims that he will continue to support Trump’s campaign and stay in touch with his followers through his The War Room podcast, assisted by about 20 co-hosts, including Matt Gaetz, Marjorie Taylor Green and Lauren Bobert.

If it seems to you that Donald Trump and Steve Bannon have had some actual history, you are correct. Bannon functioned very successfully as Trump’s 2020 campaign CEO. He also served in Trump’s earliest presidential administration. At the time his influence was so significant that Time magazine asked: “Is Steve Bannon the Second Most Powerful Man in the World?” The answer turned out to be NOT REALLY! , because Trump fired Bannon after seven months.
